ANTI-BIKIE LEGISLATION SHOULD BE OPPOSED

Posted in Uncategorized by thecuriousmail on April 9, 2009

bikerThe Australian Federal government, and various State governments, are proposing to introduce legislation that will, amongst other consequences,  make patch-wearing bikie clubs illegal (eg Hell’s Angels). Politicians say that new legislation is necessary due to the increased violence associated with bikie gangs, and as a response from police requesting extra powers to deal with it.

I am a motorcyclist and I love riding. I don’t care if a motorcyclist rides a scooter or a Gold Wing — what is important is that they are out on the road enjoying riding. There is no doubt that the bikie gangs are involved in drugs, extortion, and other criminal activity, and it is not a minority in the club, but the club itself that is constructed as a criminal entity.

I loathe bikies, their pro-American sycophancy, their stupidity and violence, and clearly the world would be better place if they were not in it. But for two reasons the proposed anti-bikie legislation should be opposed.  Firstly, the legislation is unnecessary as all the powers that the police request are already available to them, and secondly, the legislation could clearly have other consequences and be used for other (as yet undisclosed) purposes. Politicians cannot be trusted.

I have a GSXR1000K6. I like coming up behind the Harley-riding bikies on the highway, watching their bikes weave and scrape around a moderate corner, with braking so bad they stop in next week, full of bling and bad attitude. So, a test is here.

 I hate bikies.

 I oppose the anti-bikie legislation.

I agree. I suspect it is a publicity stunt from the Gov’t, making sure they look like they are doing something.

I don’t like the term ‘bikie gang’. I agree that you can’t just outright ban organised groups, however something definitely needs to be done about the rise in crime directly related to these groups.
