Former Australian Prime Minister Mr John Howard was last night awarded the Gold Logie as Australia’s most popular TV personality.

Interviewed on the red carpet before the award ceremony, Mr Howard said he faced stiff competition in the viewer-polled Gold Logie category. He said he was nervous as he “couldn’t quite fix this one. Tampa was easy compared to this mate.”

Mr Howard received the  Gold Logie for his performance as a bumbling and dim-witted recipient of the US Presidential Medal of Freedom in the mini-series ‘George and John’s Very Stupid Adventure’.

He confessed that his performance was no doubt helped by the presence on the set of his long-time mentor, Mr George W Bush. “If it wasn’t for George, I know I wouldn’t have reached the heights that I have,” said Mr Howard.

In a gracious acceptance speech that had the celebrities present giving him a standing ovation, Mr Howard thanked the Ugly Australians who had voted for him, and said he still hoped to be considered for a second series.
