After a spate of ATM robberies in various Australian cities, atm

a national citizens group has  been formed to protect the ATMs

from further attack.

The group says it will conduct 24-hour surveillance of all ATM

sites and immediately report any suspicious

behaviour to police.

A spokesman for the group said it was time for people to stand up

for the defenceless ATMs.  He indicated that he would

be prepared to chain himself to an ATM to defend it.

The four major Australian banks have sponsored a program to “Adopt An ATM”, where people are encouraged to

beautify and revere ATM sites. The program will be funded by a small increase in bank fees, and has already been

nominated for several community action awards.

Mr Malcolm Turnbull, Leader of the Opposition and a former merchant banker, said concerned people have to act

on the goodwill that they have for the banks.
